Throughout 2024, Wonderland participated in the year-long Maths Champions programme—an evidence-based initiative designed to strengthen early mathematical development by improving practitioner confidence, knowledge, and practice.

With a focus on embedding mathematical thinking into everyday interactions, the programme supported staff to create rich, engaging learning opportunities that reflect the developmental needs of young children. Practitioners explored new strategies and deepened their understanding of how to promote early maths skills through play, routines, and the learning environment.

The impact of the Maths Champions programme is supported by research from the Education Endowment Fund, which shows that children typically make an additional three months of progress over the course of the programme. For children in receipt of the Pupil Premium, this can increase to as much as six months' additional progress.

Through this programme, Wonderland has strengthened its commitment to high-quality early education, giving every child the foundations they need to thrive in mathematics and beyond.
