Supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities

At Wonderland, we are proud to provide an inclusive, nurturing environment where every child is supported to thrive. We have a strong commitment to supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring they are valued, understood, and given the tools to reach their full potential.

All of our staff receive inclusion training through Dingley’s Promise as part of their induction, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to deliver high-quality, inclusive care from day one. Our team has extensive experience supporting children with a wide range of needs, and we work proactively to identify and respond to any additional support required as early as possible.

Children with SEND are fully included within our main nursery rooms, encouraging social interaction and shared experiences with their peers. In addition, we offer access to a dedicated hub facility and a separate sensory room, designed to provide a calm, supportive space tailored to individual needs.

We work closely with families and a range of external professionals to ensure that each child receives the right support at the right time. Where appropriate, we initiate referrals and request Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) assessments to secure long-term, personalised support for children who need it.

Our goal is to create an environment where all children feel safe, respected, and empowered—regardless of their starting point.

Our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) is Lisa who has lots of experience supporting children with additional needs in nursery and pre-school settings. Lisa has a Masters degree in Education, specialising in inclusive practices and holds the level 3 SENCO award.
