The fledglings room is a pre-school room, designed for younger children. Thoughtfully designed to mirror preschool practices, providing young children with a smooth transition in their educational journey. While the activities are tailored to be developmentally appropriate for toddlers, the room's structure mimics the routine and learning environment they will experience in preschool. This includes designated activity times, structured group play, and a balance of independent and cooperative learning experiences.

Children are introduced to basic routines like circle time, story sessions, and snack times, encouraging them to engage in group discussions and activities while still focusing on their individual needs and development. The room also incorporates a more structured approach to transitions, such as moving between play areas and preparing for tidy-up, helping toddlers build essential skills for following directions, listening, and taking turns.

By introducing these preschool-like elements at a younger age, the room prepares children not only academically but also socially and emotionally, helping them feel confident and ready to embrace the more structured preschool environment when the time comes.

The fledglings room opens directly onto a secure outside classroom area, where children can freely develop their physical skills  and take part in outdoor learning activities such as planting, bug hunts, and water play.  From here, the children have access to the main garden which is an extension of the classroom, promoting wellbeing and active learning in all seasons.

At Wonderland, we believe that each child develops at their own pace, so transitions between rooms are based on individual progress rather than strictly on age. This approach ensures that children are ready for the next phase of their learning journey when they demonstrate the skills, confidence, and readiness needed for a new environment.

When a child reaches a point where they are prepared for more challenging activities, increased social interaction, or greater independence, they will transition to the pre-school foundation room, which continues to build on their strengths. This personalised approach allows for a smoother and more positive transition, as children move forward when they are developmentally ready, not when a calendar says it's time.

Our educators closely observe each child's growth and work with families to make these transitions as seamless as possible, ensuring that every child’s unique pace is respected and celebrated. This way, we can create an individualised learning path that supports both academic progress and emotional well-being, setting a solid foundation for future success.
